Goldrake is 30!

Do you know Goldrake ?

About thirty years ago, Italian kids were crazy for this cartoon! Since tidbit is a place where you can feed not only the body but also the mind, I would like to share with you something about one of the most popular cartoons in Italy from the late 70s and early 80s.

Goldrake is a super robot show created by manga artist Go Nagai from Japan. It was shown on the old RAI 2 in Italy starting on April 4, 1978. Goldrake is best remembered as one of the first anime shows to have a huge success in Europe and particularly in Italy where it holds a strong following even today. These cartoons became soon very popular but they were also were considered too violent by some angry moms. These moms protested and eventually made RAI stop the program (it sounds that those moms were more violent than the cartoon itself!). As a consequence of that protest, Goldrake and many other Japanese cartoons were shown only on private channels.

If you are over 25 and grew up in Italy, I am sure that Goldrake’s birthday means something to you. Now I am feeling homesick and hope my Italian friends were here with me to celebrate this special birthday.

...si trasforma in un razzo missile, con circuiti di mille valvole...tra le stelle sprinta e va...
